The Garden Report Winter '03

Another mild winter.  Low temp in the garden was 27 degrees in late February.  Didn't start winter clean-up until March.  Put down 5 yards of additional compost.

This is the backyard in March .  Lots of foliage still looking fresh with only mild winter frosts.
The star of the January garden, Hamamelis mollis 'Pallida,' which has grown to a 10 foot shrub.
Tulips, daffodils and fresh foliage in March..
Throughout fall and winter, the incredible evergreen Grevillea victoriae was covered with these spectacular flower clusters.  This Australian native looks great all year with minimal care.
Here we have the bare stems of Sambucus racemosa 'Sutherland's Gold' in the background with the aforementioned Grevillea in the foreground.
